Calley and Chessani.

Here is an interesting commentary on:

Justice lag
Lt Col Jeffrey Chessani, a Marine Corps officer charged with failing to report or investigate the killings in Haditha, photographed at Camp Pendleton in June 2008. Charges against Chessani – and against six of the other seven men facing courts-martials – have since been dropped. Denis Poroy / AP

As William Calley, who bore the blame for the massacre at My Lai, makes his first public apology, the eight Marines accused of the most serious crimes in Iraq look likely to walk free, Allison Hoffman reports.

The text, or sub-text, is that once again the low man gets it in the neck, while those in the upper echelons are in the clear.

I am curious about your comparison in this post. Do you seriously believe that Chessani’s offenses, if any – let us not forget that you are writing a defense-oriented blog – are in any manner comparable with Calley’s?

The post is how the author of the article seems to posit the issue.
Like you I would not find Haditha and My Lai comparable. You’d have to go back to WWII or 1919 and Amritsar to find something comparable.
    Sincerely.
